This project was born out of the idea to portray the arboretum that encompasses the campus at California State University Chico in a unique way. Because of the extremely diverse species of trees on campus, my good friend and classmate J.J. Beard and I decided to focus on a small part of the tree. Leaves are seemingly ubiquitous for all trees, but among species they vary greatly in shape, size, color, and texture. Using rubbings as a device to communicate those tactile feelings in a visual way, we overlaid them with scans of the leaf itself. The net result depicts the unified representation of two separate interpretations of one object.
